Portion of downtown Savanna building collapses

The Savanna Fire Department was dispatched at 6:29 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, to 405 Main St. for a partially collapsed rear section of the building. The building, which formerly housed CJ’s and Cannavan’s restaurants is now unoccupied. The owner is Donna Semrow of Clinton, Iowa. Savanna Fire Chief Scott Wolfe said the cause of the collapse appears to be the age of the building, which was constructed in 1903. There were no injuries as the result of the building collapse.
