West Carroll Supt. Julie Katzenberger is expressing gratitude to those who helped clean up an excess of water at the West Carroll Middle School last weekend.

Katzenberger said Monday, Jan. 21, via email that head custodian Kyong Cavanagh went to WCMS shortly before noon on Sunday, Jan. 20, to perform a building check. Cavanagh found a boys' bathroom urinal to be running.

The overflow of water from the urinal in the boys' bathroom flowed into the cafeteria, art room and offices. The rest of the building was unaffected, Katzenberger said.

School employees along with many volunteers from the Mount Carroll police, fire, and ambulance helped clean up the water.

Katzenberger said that while school was closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the school would re-open Tuesday with no problems. She added that the problematic urinal has been shut off, but the remainder of the boys’ bathroom is available for use.

"Thank you to all the people that assisted with the water clean-up on Sunday," Katzenberger said. "It is much appreciated."
