The Savanna Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Christmas Cookie Walk will be held Friday, Nov. 29.

One of the highlights of the Walk is the silent auction held at Blackhawk Area Credit Union, 214 Main St., with gift baskets that will appeal to everyone along with many other items to help fill your Christmas shopping list.

Again this year, the Chamber is sponsoring the Tastiest Cookie Contest to be held at the First Savanna Savings Bank. Cookies will be judged on appearance and taste.

Cookie bakers are asked to have 4-6 plated decorated cookies and a minimum of two-dozen cookies to the First Savanna Savings Bank by noon on Friday.

The remainder of the cookies will be sold at the Cookie Walk at the Blackhawk Area Credit Union at 5 p.m.

This year we are inviting children to join the Cookie Contest and will have a 12 years and under age group. The two groups will each be awarded for ‘best decorated cookie’ and ‘tastiest cookie.’

Winners of the 12 years and under age group will receive $40 in Thunder bucks each and winners over 12 will receive $40 in Chamber bucks each.

For more information please contact the Chamber office at 815-273-2722 or

Savanna Holiday Cash sheets will be available in the Nov. 27 issue of the Carroll County Mirror-Democrat and the Nov. 28 issue of the Savanna Times-Journal as well as at the participating businesses. Visit these businesses and have your sheet stamped for a chance to win $100.

Selfies with Santa can be taken at the Savanna Fire Station. Children are also invited to write letters to Santa at the fire station.

Wagon rides will be available down Main Street and Christmas carolers also will be on Main Street.

The Festival of Trees opens at 4 p.m. Nov. 29, at the Savanna Museum and Cultural Center so stop in during the Christmas Walk.

The Savanna Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the window-decorating contest. This year’s theme is “Festival of Lights — Light up the Downtown!”
