The Knights of Columbus and the Savanna Times Theater will present July's free movie, “Restless Heart: The Confessions of Augustine” at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20.

The movie is free to the public. Popcorn and refreshments are available for purchase.

“This epic historical dramatization of St. Augustine is a must see for all Christians,” said the Savanna Knights of Columbus.

Set in the fifth century (430 AD), the Roman Empire is beginning to crumble. The Vandals and other marauding tribes spill through the gaps in Roman defenses.

From this violent time one of the greatest saints of the Christian church stands between his flock and the Barbarian invaders. As he attempts to negotiate peace between the proud Roman authorities and the implacable Vandal King, Augustine reflects upon his own sinful life before Christianity.

In this stirring and epic film on the life of St Augustine of Hippo, follow the great Saint as he rises from his reckless days as a youth to his accomplishments as a renowned but dissolute orator. Though worldly success and riches come his way, including a position in the Imperial Court of Milan, satisfaction and peace elude him. It takes a confrontation with the Christian Bishop Ambrose and the countless prayers offered by his mother, Monica to break through his intellectual pride.

“This movie is suitable for children and adults of all ages,” said the Savanna KC’s. “It is a wonderful opportunity to view the ancient world when Christianity was still young and struggling.”

Ministers or groups interested in sponsoring one weekend per month of a Christian movie are asked to call John McConnel at 815-244-4005.

“This is a very worthwhile ministry providing Christian entertainment to the public as a community service,” said McConnel.
