The first book of the summer season, “The Raft” by Jim Lamarche, is now on display in the book walk at Mount Carroll’s Point Rock Park.

“The Raft” is about a young boy who is reluctant to spend the summer at his grandma's house in the Wisconsin woods. When a raft appears on the river, opening up the wonders of the nature surrounding him, young Nicky begins to change his perspective and his appreciation for nature and his grandmother.

Take a walk around the park’s first baseball diamond and along the Waukarusa River and back while enjoying the book with your family this summer. This is an out and back book walk path with numbered signs beginning right at the bridge to the first ball diamond.

The book was donated by Laurie Foltz of Mount Carroll.

Materials for the Point Rock Park book walk were provided through donations and grants, including the Mount Carroll Community Foundation, which is a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend.

Individuals or organizations interested in sponsoring a book for the book walk are asked to call Pat or Keta Foltz at 815-275-9606.
