Changes coming to Mount Carroll Fire Station

A vacant two-story frame house at 314 S. Clay St. was demolished Monday, Aug. 26, as part of an eventual expansion project for the Mount Carroll Fire Station. Fire District Trustee Ron Buckwalter said a two-bay addition to the north side of the existing station, built in 1962, will be constructed “two years down the road or so, but there is no timeframe.” The addition will be about half of the size of the current fire station. The Mount Carroll Fire Protection District purchased the house in January 2018 for $45,000 and a $13,000 bid from Chris Morgan Excavating of Chadwick was awarded for the demolition.
