MC Council discusses work at former school

Three levels of fenced-in grade school playgrounds, which had been on the south side of the former Mount Carroll public school building on Main Street for many decades, have been removed in recent weeks and heavy equipment has been used to shape the contour of the sloping property. The Mount Carroll City Council discussed property owner Nathaniel Hseih’s project at its Sept. 28 meeting, noting that no zoning changes had been requested from the city. Hseih, of Chicago, told the council at an earlier meeting that he was going to develop a distillery at the location for a Chinese alcoholic beverage. The council plans to continue discussing the project at future meetings.
