The Mount Carroll Chamber of Commerce has announced the 2020 ornament for its long-running Christmas ornament series.

This year's Chamber ornament marks the 26th edition and features the 160-year-old Community House at 101 N. Main St.

The Community House originally served as the First English Evangelical Lutheran Church. The foundation was laid on July 5, 1860, and the church was dedicated Nov. 11, 1860. The building also served as the Dunkard church in the early 1900s.

Today the frame structure at the northeast corner of Main and Center streets is known as the Community House.

Through the years it has been used by the Community Club, by the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and many other organizations for many different family events, along with hot dogs and snacks following the Halloween parade. In the early 1950s it was the site for children to receive the polio vaccine.

Currently, the Community House hosts Jazzercise classes, Trinity Karate, and The Living Water Fellowship Church.

The 2020 ornaments are $15 each, with limited past ornaments available at $5 each. Ornaments can be purchased at the Mount Carroll Pharmacy, Heritage Market, Shaw's Express, Mirror-Democrat or by calling Alex Veith at 815-238-7564.
