Savanna native leads station

Clay Koenig

DECATUR—Former Savanna resident Clay Koenig has been named president-general manager of WAND-TV in Decatur, effective Aug. 1. He replaces Ricky Joseph, who is retiring Aug. 31.

Koenig is a 1986 graduate of Savanna High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in communications with a minor in microbiology in 1992 from Western Illinois University in Macomb.

He and his wife Jane have four children: triplets, Abraham, Elijah and Grace, and Gabriel.

WGEM-TV was Koenig’s first job in television followed by KMID, WKRN, WZTV, WLAX/WEUX, WATE, WLNS and WAND. In 2009 he joined the WAND team as vice president-general sales manager. The title of station manager was added to his responsibilities in 2020.

WAND-TV is a member of Block Communications, Toledo, Ohio. Koenig said he feels very appreciative to be a member of this family partnership and believes in serving the community and viewers with honest and factual news.
