Wacker Road readies for school’s start

Concrete was poured Tuesday, Aug. 13, on Wacker Road in front of the West Carroll Primary School. Savanna Mayor Chris Lain said this portion of the road will be completed before school starts next week, adding that the goal is to have the WCPS parking lot entrances on Willow and Hickory streets complete and open as well. “These will be the only access points to the parking lot,” said Mayor Lain. “If you have children at the primary school, and are able to, please consider putting them on the bus. This will alleviate some of the congestion in the area at the start and end of the school day. If anything changes, I will update everyone immediately.” The mayor said there was a minor setback when some of the soil where the new road was going was wet and soft. Those areas had to be cored out and replaced with larger dry rock. “That work has been completed and everything should move forward quicker,” Lain said. “Thank you for your patience.” The $5.3 million Wacker Road reconstruction project is expected to have substantial completion by November, with full completion by next spring.
