The Mount Carroll Halloween 5K returns this year after being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The run/walk will help raise money for the West Carroll High School cross country team.

The event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the West Carroll Middle School., 633 S. East St.

Participants are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes, but they are optional. One medal will be awarded to the best costume.

Participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to the race for check in. Parking will be available in the WCMS parking lot. Bottled water also will be available.

Age divisions include: ages 5-11; ages 12-18; ages 19-40; ages 41 and older. The top three males and females in each division will receive a medal.

Registration deadline is Oct. 28. Costs are: $10 for divisions 5-11 and 12-18; $20 for divisions 19-40 and 41 and up.

Registration forms and money may be sent to the West Carroll Middle School, 633 S. East St., Mount Carroll, IL 61053. Checks can be made out to WC Cross Country.

Organizers are encouraging people to come join the fun.

"Whether you want to compete or enjoy a walk/run, this is a perfect opportunity," said Eric Naples, West Carroll teacher and cross country coach.
