SAVANNA—Floyd E. England, 83, formerly of Savanna, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018, in Clinton, Iowa.

Floyd was born in Welch, W.Va., on Nov. 26, 1934, to Floyd and Virginia England. He graduated from Welch High School and moved to Illinois to attend college.

Floyd graduated from Roosevelt University in Aurora with a Master of Arts in teaching. Floyd began his career as a social worker in Chicago and then became a guidance counselor and teacher in the Eastern Iowa and Northwest Illinois area.

Floyd married his wife of 52 years, Diana (Phillips) England from Thomson, on May 9, 1966.

Floyd retired from teaching in 1971 and went into banking. He individually, or in partnership, owned banks in Thomson, Savanna, Clinton, Goose Lake, Charlotte, Lincolnwood and Indiana.

He owned food stores in Savanna, Dixon and Freeport and was involved in other small businesses throughout his life. He received a Teacher of the Year award and a Who's Who in Business Award during his 58-year career.

His last project was working with the Sac Nation in Stroud Okla., to help them acquire land at the former Savanna Army Depot. He believed they would help revive the local economy and create jobs for the area.

Floyd loved music, especially Ragtime, Blues, Swing and Stride piano. He was an accomplished pianist, practicing four to six hours a day for over 25 years. He purchased and ran England Music in Clinton for 19 years until his retirement in 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; son, Todd; and brother, Larry.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Ruby, Wayne and Don.

Arrangements are being handled by Law-Jones Funeral Home. A private memorial service is to be held for the family.
