MOUNT CARROLL—Virginia Turnbaugh, 93, of Mount Carroll, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, in her home.
A private funeral service will be held with burial taking place in the Lanark Cemetery.
A public celebration of life will be held at from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at the Chadwick American Legion Hall. Memorials may be made to FHN Hospice. Family and friends are invited to share in Virginia's life at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Virginia was born May 15, 1928, in Fairhaven Township, Chadwick, the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Heide) Miller. On Sept. 15, 1946, Virginia married Elwyn Turnbaugh at Fairhaven Church.
Virginia found her calling as a homemaker and farmer's wife with her husband, Elwyn. She farmed with her dear husband for 40-plus years until they retired in 1988.
Taking care of her family was her favorite part of life. She would sew and crotchet clothing and other items for her children and grandchildren and was always the first to volunteer to babysit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also greatly enjoyed gardening.
Virginia will be dearly missed by her three daughters, Mary Ann Turnbaugh of Mount Carroll, Patricia (David) Diercks of Low Moor, Iowa, and Connie (Stephen) Brown of German Valley; two sons, Gregory (Shirley) Turnbaugh of Mount Carroll and Douglas (Terrie) Turnbaugh of Thomson; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jane Swearingen; and brother-in-law, Marvin Turnbaugh.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel; husband, Elwyn; infant daughter, Kandis; three brothers, John (Judy) Miller, Glenn (Mary) Miller, and William Miller; two sisters, Grace (Harry) Appel and Mabel (Russell) Klitz; sister-in-law, Sylvia Turnbaugh; and brother-in-law, Marvin Turnbaugh.
