ROCKFORD—Betty L. Shoup, 92, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center.
She was born on April 5, 1928, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of William W. and Helen A. (Turnbaugh) Ware. She graduated from Lanark High School in 1946 and served as an emergency country school teacher for two years. Betty married Emmert Shoup on May 10, 1947, in Chadwick. He predeceased her on Feb. 3, 2014.
She worked at Polo National Bank and was a Licensed Practical Nurse at SwedishAmerican Hospital and Fairhaven in Rockford.
Betty was a member of the Salvation Army where she was a Sunday school teacher, Salvation Army Quilter, and a volunteer. She enjoyed quilting and oil painting landscapes.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Jack) Plasters of Rockford and Diane (Thomas) Manikowski of Mount Carroll, IL; son, Steven Shoup of Englewood, Colo; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Kloepping; brother-in-law, Lyle Barthel; and sister-in-law Ellen Shoup.
She is also predeceased by a sister, Carol Barthel; grandson, Mark Plasters (2020); and brothers-in-law, Keith Kloepping and Allen Shoup.
A private family burial will be in Schreiner Cemetery, Lanark. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 500 S. Rockford Ave., Rockford, IL 61104.
