Donald was born September 21, 1932 in Savanna, the son of Lloyd and Louise (Getz) Law. He grew up on the family farm, attending Oakton Country School, and then graduating with the Savanna High School Class of 1950. On October 14, 1956, Donald married Eva Merboth of Lanark. They raised six children and celebrated sixty-two years of marriage.

Don and Eva farmed in Fairhaven when they were younger, then in 1962, bought a farm north of Mt. Carroll. Just like most other farmers, Don raised beef, sheep, pigs, milked cows, tended chickens and raised enough crops to feed them all. As time went by, Don and Eva enjoyed their growing family, with grandchildren and great grandchildren to work and enjoy the farm. His family was his pride. Sunday family dinners were one of his favorite things. He loved dancing and going out to supper with Eva.

Donald and Eva are members of the First Brethren Church of Lanark, and Don also worked for the ASCS Office in Mt. Carroll for a number of years, along with serving as the Woodland Township Clerk, member of Washington Community Club, and a lifelong member of the Jacobstown Club.

Donald will be dearly missed by his wife, Eva; six children, Pamela (Steve) Gehrls of Clive, Iowa, Darryl Law of Savanna, Karen (Douglas Miller) Rodda of Mt. Carroll, David (Jeanne) Law of Mt. Carroll, Alfred (Melissa) Law of Savanna, and Marsha (Sean) Shilling of Blanchardville, Wisconsin; fifteen grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Merle Law of Savanna and Vernon (Thelma) Law of Savanna. Donald is preceded in death by both parents; his mother and father-in-law; and his brother, Lloyd, Jr..
