SAVANNA—Marilyn Altensey, 67, of Savanna, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society-Mount Carroll.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 12-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Friends and family may share in Marilyn's life at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Marilyn was born July 24, 1951, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Junior Thomas "Pat" and Cecilia (Parker) Gilbert. She attended Fairhaven country schools and Thomson schools in her youth before graduating from Savanna High School in 1969.
On Oct. 10, 1970, Marilyn married Matthew Altensey at her grandmother Helen Parker's house near Savanna, Matt had returned home from his service in the U.S. Army. Marilyn began her working years at Eaton Corporation, later called Invensys. She worked at the Savanna plant, then later, the Hanover plant, for a total of over 30 years.
Marilyn enjoyed visiting with family and friends over coffee or tea, reading, playing bingo, and cross stitch, and also had an adventurous side, as she loved to travel out west with her family and go camping at Mississippi Palisades State Park.
Marilyn will be dearly missed by her husband, Matthew Altensey of Savanna; her son, Earl Altensey of Sabula, Iowa; her daughter, Veronica (Robert) Fredericks of Mount Carroll; four grandchildren, Cody Altensey (fiancé Katie Beyer), Connor Altensey, Izabella Fredericks and Zoe Fredericks; two great-grandchildren, Lily and Frankie; her mother, Cecilia Gilbert of Savanna; seven sisters and a brother, Vickie Trybus of Savanna, Karen Molinari of Rockford, Pamela (Salvador) Mendez of Savanna, Doreen (Butch) Miller of Savanna, Gail Ann Themas of Savanna, Kim (Jeff) Knouse of Savanna, Tom (Barb) Gilbert of Mount Carroll, and Cece Gilbert of Savanna; and several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, Michael Paul Altensey, who passed soon after birth; her father, Pat Gilbert; and her three sisters, Marie Sue Gilbert, Claudia Ann Gilbert, and Cathy Jo Koeller.
