Grace was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Crandon, Wis., to Harvey and Agnes Aubol. She married the love of her life, Al Carlson, on the day after her 18th birthday. They moved to Mount Carroll after starting their family and later settled in Stockton. She relocated to Asheville in 2018 to live with her granddaughter.

Grace owned an upholstery and craft shop in Stockton and also operated the police radios when Al was the chief of police and worked alongside him in Mount Carroll running a movie theater.

She is survived by two sons, Art (Jonnie) Carlson of Wilmington, N.C., and Steve Carlson of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Jeff of Machesney Park, Beth (Jeff) of Wake Forest, N.C., Brian (Patti) of Naperville, Jerry (Amanda) of Stockton, John (Shanda) of Rockford, Cara of Asheville, N.C., Toni of Wilmington, N.C., and Jodi (Brian) of Juda, Wis.; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; a brother, Kenny of Crandon, Wis.; and a nephew, Marty of Rhinelander, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; parents; sister-in-law, June; and daughter-in-law, Gloria.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
