MESA, Ariz.—Donald W. Adams, 94, of Mesa Ariz., formerly of Savanna, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021. A private family funeral service will be held.

Donald was born Jan. 3, 1927, son of Richard and Bessie (Barnoske) Adams. He grew up in Savanna, and graduated from Savanna High School. After graduation Donald joined the United States Navy, and served in World War II.

After serving his country, Donald returned to Savanna, and began working for the Milwaukee Road, retiring from the Soo Line in 1986. Donald married Berness Barth Jan. 7, 1951. The couple raised three children, and celebrated 55 years of marriage until Berness's passing in 2007.

Donald enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing memories of his railroading days. He loved spending time in the sun. He enjoyed country music and his Echo Dot was his best friend. He rode the restored Milwaukee Road 261 steam engine from Duluth to Minneapolis with his son and his grandsons, Nikk and Adam, in 2014.

He cherished the gathering for his 90th birthday, which his children, all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren attended, as well as his sister, nieces, nephews and cousins. The 36x60 photo was a conversation piece and brought him much happiness.

Donald will be dearly missed by his children, Bonny Adams of Mesa, Ariz., and Donald A (Kathie) Adams of Solon Springs, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Jacqueline (Wade) Glahn of Camanche, Iowa, Ronald (Kathy) Nolte of Metamora, Ill., Jennifer (Paul) Letcher of Washington, Ill., Zach Adams of Savanna, Mackenzy (Andy) Walt of Springbrook Wis., Benjamin (Jennifer) Adams of Holmen, Wis., Nikkolas (Jamie) Adams, of Solon Springs, Wis., Cassandra (Lorenzo) Barbone, Hermosa Beach, Calif., Tyler Blair of Chandler, Ariz., Andrea (Alex) Sayyah of Minneapolis, Minn., and Adam (Amy) Blair of Cordova, Ill.; 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Smith of Bella Vista, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Helen Adams of Sun City West, Ariz; and several nieces and nephews.
