LEXINGTON, Ky.—Marianne Hall Kurth, 74, of Lexington, Ky., and a graduate of the Mount Carroll High School Class of 1965, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at her home after more than a year under the care of Hospice and of her loving husband, Joe.
Marianne was born Jan. 5, 1947, at Savanna City Hospital, the daughter of Russell and Mary Hall. She met Joe Kurth her freshman year of high school. She was the love of his life, and they were married in 1966. They had two children, Lisa in 1966 and Russell in 1967, and moved to Columbia, Mo., in 1970.
Marianne earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees with Summa Cum Laude honors from the University of Missouri and then taught 5th grade at Auxvasse, Mo., before taking a position as Grants Writer for the Council on Economic Education and then as Editor and Designer for Missouri Cooperative Extension at UMC. She continued in her latter role at Washington State University and Iowa State University in the 1980s and 1990s before retiring in 1996 to devote full time to raising her grandson, Jesse. The three of them moved to Lexington in 2003.
Marianne was a very warm and caring person and will be remembered for her high intelligence and her natural beauty, but most of all as the perfect wife and mother to her family. She and Joe suffered heartbreaking losses when Lisa died at age 47 in 2014 and Russell at age 53 in 2020. Her own health began deteriorating in 2015, and she was diagnosed with heart and lung diseases in 2016, but she maintained her sense of dignity and grace and humor throughout her last years.
Marianne will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 55 years, Joe; her grandson, Jesse; her sister, Barbara Hall Dykema and husband Richard of Geneseo; her brother, Jim and wife Patty of Liberty, Mo.; and many Hall family cousins with whom she grew up in rural Mount Carroll.
She was preceded in death by both parents and both of her children.
Marianne chose to be cremated, and there will be no services. Condolences may be sent to 588 Southpoint Drive, Lexington, KY 40515 or online at email@example.com.
