ROCKFORD—Phyllis Darlene (Spencer) Edwards, 88, of Rockford, formerly of Mount Carroll, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, with her daughters by her side at St. Anne Center.
Born June 10, 1931, in Freeport, she was the daughter of Helen (Alvin) Hammond and Meryl Spencer. She graduated from Mount Carroll High School in 1949. She married James Edwards June 23, 1949. He predeceased her in 1999.
She was a member of Broadway Covenant Church. Dee enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She loved gardening and sharing with friends and neighbors.
She was a waitress for many years at Bianchi's and The Bistro. She also babysat her only grandson, Josh.
She is survived by her children, Jamie (Jim) Deming and Liz "Beth" Edwards; and grandson, Joshua Deming.
She was also predeceased by her daughter, Jacci Edwards; and siblings Dona Warfield, Gib Spencer and Ted Spencer.
Per Darlene's wishes, she will be cremated and there will be a celebration of her life at a later date.
We would like to thank her many wonderful caregivers at St. Anne Center and Heartland Hospice.
Dee will be remembered for her cooking, kindness and giving spirit.
