GLEN ELLYN—Sarah V. Cunniffe McHale, 80, of Glen Ellyn, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at the home of her youngest daughter, Mary, of Covid-19.

She was born May 20, 1940, to John and Sarah McAndrew of Curradrish, Ireland. Sarah grew up on a farm where she learned to work very hard. After coming to Chicago in 1958, she learned to be a beautician from an aunt.

Her first marriage was in 1965 and she became a homemaker. Later she became a CNA and married her present husband in 1990.

She began taking college courses in order to pursue her dream of being a nurse. She graduated from Triton College in 1997 at the age 57, the oldest in her class with a B+ average, though she was proudest of her children and nine grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph McHale of Savanna; four children, Patricia (Kevin) Snyder of Naperville, Thomas Cunniffe of DeKalb, Patrick (Peggy) Cunniffe of Middleton, Wis., and Mary (John) McManus of Glen Ellyn; nine grandchildren; a sister, Gertie Garvey of Galway, Ireland; seven nephews; five nieces and several grand-nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at a later date.

The family is most grateful for the care given by Mary McManus, her youngest child and nurse practitioner.
