MOUNT CARROLL—Margie Ellen (Boyd) Knirlberger, 78, of Mount Carroll, was born Sept. 7, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa, and died in her home on Friday, March 12, 2021.

A memorial service in Margie's honor will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, in Mount Carroll. Visitation will take place from 1-3 p.m. that day. Inurnment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mount Carroll.

Her parents were Orville and Margauretta Anna (Wheeling) Boyd of Stronghurst, Ill. Margie's mother died when she was five years old. Her father then remarried and her stepmother, Vierra Esterle (Graham) Boyd, along with her older sisters, Roxanne and Betty, raised her.

Margie attended Stronghurst elementary and high school, and upon high school graduation, she enrolled at Cottage Hospital School of Nursing in Galesburg. She returned to Stronghurst and was hired by Dr. Harold Bock as his office nurse for a two-year period before moving to Mount Carroll with her newly married husband, Edward L. Knirlberger.

Marige had a life-long nursing career in Mount Carroll, as well as working at the Savanna Hospital in O.R. Most of her career was spent at the Mount Carroll Good Samaritan Nursing Home as Staff Development Coordinator. She retired from nursing in 2003 after 32 years of service to enjoy family vacations and her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family.

Surviving are her husband, Edward L. Knirlberger following 54 years of marriage; eldest son, Scott Knirlberger of Hew Braunfels, Texas, and youngest son, Thad (Cheryl) Knirlberger, of Ottawa, Il.; two granddaughters, Sierra (Isaac) Whitten and Emma (Jacob Sanchez) Knirlberger; and grandson, Nathaniel Knirlberger.
