SAVANNA—Mary "Helen" Castro-Weiler, 81 of Savanna, formerly of Kewanee, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, at home, taking her secret potato salad recipe with her.
Helen was born Dec. 18, 1937, in Savanna, the daughter of Frank and Antonia (Camarena) Castro. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1958.
Helen did restaurant work and later went into factory work as a line worker. In retirement she enjoyed helping others at the Senior Center in Kewanee.
Aunt Helen enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and reading. Family meant the most to Helen; she truly treasured the time she spent with her nieces and nephews.
Aunt Helen will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews; three sister in-laws, Lupe Castro of Savanna, Angelina Castro of Chicago, and Judy Castro of Rock Falls.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Raymond Sr., Joe (Mary), Manuel Sr. (Emilea) Frank, George, and Richard Castro.
She was also preceded in death by her birds and two dogs, Chula and Paco. She will be fondly remembered by all as Aunt Helen.
Cremation rites were accorded. A celebration of Helen's life was held Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Manny's Pizza in Savanna. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
