SAVANNA—Rosemary (Funk) Buck Shafer, 97, of Savanna, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Savanna. Cremation rites will be accorded. Family and friends are invited to share in Rosemary's life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Rosemary was born March 11, 1922, in Savanna, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Diffin) Funk. She attended Walnut Grove School and later married Orville Buck on June 15, 1940, in Savanna. After Orville's stroke, Rosemary shouldered much of the burden of caring for the family farm for many years. She helped Orville work that family farm for 45 years, until retiring in 1985. Following Orville's untimely passing, Rosemary married Jack Shafer on Sept. 28, 1985.
In 1996, at the age of 74, Rosemary went back to school and earned her GED through Highland Community College, an achievement of which she was especially proud.
Rosemary was a proud, long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and W.O.O.M. She enjoyed making quilts and shared this love with others by gifting many of her creations.
Rosemary is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Clara; husbands, Orville Buck and Jack Shafer; brothers, Donald and George Funk; sister, Frances; special sister-in-law, Gladys Funk; and niece, Mary Ellen.
