MOUNT CARROLL—Robert F. Tautz, 88, of Mount Carroll, died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at St. Anthony OSF Medical Center in Rockford.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. A gathering will be held from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll.

Robert was born Feb. 14, 1931, in Mount Carroll, the son of Frederick and Mina (Johnston) Tautz. He graduated from Mount Carroll High School with the Class of 1949 and later attended the University of Illinois.

Robert was a steward of the land and farmed on the family farm his entire life. Robert loved his farm dogs and always dreamed of flying. Robert lived for reading the Wall Street Journal and sharing his family history with others. He was also known to speak his mind, especially when talking about politics. Robert also enjoyed taking road trips across the United States with close friends.

Robert is survived by two brothers, John (Betty) Tautz and Herb (Dana) Tautz, both of Mount Carroll; five nieces and nephews, Karl (Shelly) Tautz, Lisa (Jeff) Smith, Laurie Tautz-Marx, Martha Barnett, and Erich (Lisa) Tautz; seven great nieces and nephews; and two close friends, Allen Swift and Rick Oviatt.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eleanor Brown.
