MARJORIE A. MARTIN

SAVANNA—Marjorie Ann (Vock) Martin, 95, of Savanna, formerly of Sterling, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020.

Marjorie was born July 26, 1925, to Carl and Margaret (Lauber) Vock. She grew up in the Coleta and Sterling area. Marge married Robert Llewellyn “Chub” Martin Sept. 1, 1947, in Sterling. He died Aug. 12, 1992.

She had worked at the Schuneman Insurance Agency in Sterling for many years.

Marge enjoyed spending time outside working in her yard and garden, boating on the Mississippi River, quilting, singing in the church choir and working at the Savanna Thrift Shop and Savanna Food Pantry.

For many years Marge was a very active volunteer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna.

After retiring, she started traveling and visiting many different parts of the United States. Marge loved to attend birthday parties, graduations and weddings of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was considered the guest of honor at these celebrations.

Marge’s thumbprint cookies with the pink icing were especially cherished by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They thought she was the most awesome grandma. And her daughters thought she was the most awesome mother and friend.

Survivors include her four daughters, Bobbie Ann (Dennis) Radocha of Boise, Idaho, Juanita Martin of Tucson, Ariz., Miriam (Ken) McIntyre of Tomah, Wis., and Clara Sanders of Rock Falls; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Phyllis) Vock; two sisters, Alice Reed and Esther Mullen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father in-law; her son-in-law, Paul Sanders; her sister; two brothers; her sister-in-law; and her three brothers-in-law.

Masks and social distancing requirements will be required to allow for 10 persons at a time to rotate through a public visitation from 10–11 a.m. Thursday Dec. 17, at the McDonald Funeral Home, 505 1st Avenue, Sterling.

Visitation will be followed by the Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Moises Apostol officiating. Burial will conclude at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sterling.
