SAVANNA—Gerald (Jerry) Ray Skimhorn Sr., 67, of Savanna, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, after a sudden illness.

Gerald was born Nov. 28, 1951, in Manistee, Mich., to Isaac Michael and Ethel (Parks) Skimhorn. Gerald was raised in Savanna and attended Savanna High School. He married Dalene Brinkmeier in 1971 at Derinda.

He served in the United States Marine Corps 1971-75, retired from truck driving and currently worked at Metform in Savanna.

Gerald enjoyed bowling, playing pool, working in his shop on lawn mowers and enjoyed mowing lawns for people.

Gerald was a shy, kindhearted man that would do anything for anyone.

He is survived by his wife, Dalene of 48 years; two sons, Gerald Jr. (Shala) of Clinton, Iowa, and Michael (Crystal) of Clarksville, Tenn; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; brother, Michael (Jane) Skimhorn of Janesville, Wis.; special aunt, Charlene O’Neill; brothers-in-law Ralph Brinkmeier and Robert Luedke; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Barney.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty Jo Fredericks, Shirley Luedke and Linda (Lynn) Johnson; two brothers, James and Adam Skimhorn; and brothers-in-law, Skip, Todd and Pee Wee Brinkmeier.

Gerald was an organ donor. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private family service will be held at a later date.
