FREEPORT—Fred Allan Kasten, 73, of Freeport, passed away Thursday Dec. 8, 2022, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
Fred was born Oct. 22, 1949, in Savanna, the son of Fred and Emma (Ward) Kasten.
Fred was a graduate of Freeport High School and Northern Illinois University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
Fred married Linda Charles Nov. 16, 1991. He worked for Strippit Inc. as a field technician until his retirement.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; son, Chris (Margaret) Berg; daughter, Wendy (Kyle) Holmes; five grandchildren that were the love of his life, Brianna Bruehler, Alexis Berg, Cayley Berg, Ethan Holmes, and Liam Holmes; sister, Carole Fluegel; and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and three half-sisters, Ida Palmer, Phyllis Foley Poffenberger, and Jean Uphoff.
A celebration of life for Fred will take place in January.
