Dear Editor:

This is a good time of year to remind the fine people of Mount Carroll that the Exterior Paint Program is still alive. If a property owner wants to improve the appearance of their building, the city will reimburse up to $500 of expenses for materials.

To take part in the program, you can get an application form from City Hall or you can access http://mcedg.org/paint.html for a fillable application form.

The criteria for the program (as per the application):

•A not-to-exceed limit of $500 per applicant will be reimbursed for a completed painting project in a year. In other words, the applicant has one year to complete the painting project from the date of the application or the reimbursement will be rescinded.

•There is a limit of 10 applicants in a single year on a first-come, first-served basis. Reimbursement will be assessed after the project is completed and receipts for paint and materials purchased presented to City Hall.

•The costs of labor will not be reimbursed.

•Before and after pictures (5x7 or larger) throughout the project are required when receipts are presented.

Although not mandatory, if the building is historic and the owner wishes to keep its historic accuracy, the colors used in the building's time period can be recommended.
