Dear Editor:

The Mount Carroll City Council is spending money like it is going out of style.

Spending over $12 million for a new sewer plant is going a little overboard. They still have the Galena Street Bridge to pay for.

The streets are in horrible condition and should be blacktopped and not just patched.

You bought two dump trucks for the street department and why they think they need two backhoes is beyond me. Also, I don’t think it’s necessary to have three for everyone to drive.

Mount Carroll will soon be like the state of Illinois and Washington D.C. — in debt so far they can’t get out.

The City Council has to remember Mount Carroll is fast becoming a retirement town and people will move out if they keep raising rates every time they have a bill to pay.

Mayor Carl Bates doesn’t know how to manage money.
