The Mount Carroll Ministerial Association is organizing its eighth annual Community Service Day scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14, with a rain date of Sept. 21. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
We are reaching out to the residents of Mount Carroll who are in need of assistance with home projects that they are unable to accomplish themselves due to age, health or disability. Examples of projects that might be done include window washing, yard clean-up, cleaning gutters, trimming shrubs, and more.
Projects are limited to Mount Carroll homeowners with homeowner's insurance. Residents in need of a helping hand with a home project may contact any of our local churches and pick up a project sign-up form.
The form must be completed and returned to one of our local churches by Aug. 18. Requests will be fulfilled on a need basis and according to the number of volunteers available to successfully complete the project.
We are also reaching out to the community for volunteers to donate their time and talents. No experience or expertise is necessary, just a desire to help the community.
Volunteers are asked to provide their own transportation to the work sites. You will also have to have your own insurance coverage, and if you are under the age of 18, you must have a permission slip from your parent or guardian.
If you can help, please pick up a volunteer sign-up form at one of our local churches and return the completed form by Aug. 18. T-shirts will be provided to new volunteers. Those that participated last year are asked to wear their Community Service Day T-shirt.
Volunteers will gather on the courthouse lawn at 8:30 a.m. to form into groups and be given assignments for the day. Lunch and closing will be held at the United Methodist Church on Main Street.
Should you have questions regarding Service Day, please call Pastor Vince Wilczynski at the Mount Carroll Church of God. The phone number is 815-244-4453.
We thank you for your support of this community effort.
