The following is a message from Karen Wallace that was to been delivered at Savanna’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremony Friday night, Nov. 26.

Dear Editor:

I want to thank the Ed Speck family for donating the Christmas tree years ago to the city. I want to thank Jo-Carroll Energy and the guys for making the lighting possible.

Jo-Carroll volunteered two boom trucks and workers and they worked about four hours to decorate the beautiful tree.

I wanted to do a tribute to all the first responders that have so tirelessly continued to take care of Savanna, Carroll County and our country. I want to thank all military, police, sheriffs, fire and EMS departments for putting their own lives on the line every day to keep us safe and well.

It is appreciated for all you’ve done in the last two years during the pandemic. I also want to thank all retail workers, doctors, nurses and staff who didn’t have the option of staying home during this trying time.

Finally, I wanted do this tree as a memorial to my late husband, John “Lance” Wallace, retired Navy veteran who dedicated 22 years to the military.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season.

Karen Wallace
