Dear Editor:

We all need some happy news from time to time. That is why the Mount Carroll Lions Club is thrilled to announce that our Lions Christmas Gala this year has surpassed every expectation we ever had! Attendance was wonderful and everyone we talked to had very positive comments about the event.

We are so blessed to live amongst so many generous and giving people! We can't thank everyone enough for their attendance, their good cheer as we kicked off the holiday season, and, of course, their generosity in bidding on both the live, "Mystery Auction" and the "Silent Auction."

We were so happy to have netted $3,500 in the live auction which was all sent to Lions of Illinois for children with sight and hearing impairments to attend one of three Illinois Camp Lion locations this summer.

No child ever pays to attend Camp Lion and through the generous donations of auction gifts from our area Lions Clubs, the amount collected will send seven of these very special kids to camp this summer.

So, a huge thank you to all the area Lions Clubs who donated live auction gifts and to everyone who purchased a gift. And, a very special shout out to our ever-generous auctioneer, Jim Calhoun and wife, Diane, for their help in making this event such a success.

Also, the proceeds of the dessert donations and the silent auction — all provided by Mount Carroll Lions — netted another $3,478, which will go into our project fund to assist in projects in our own local area.

We all had so much fun and we enjoyed all the holiday spirit the evening invoked. And, as always, because of your generosity, the Lions will be able to continue their commitment to their motto: "We Serve" as we find ways to return the funds we netted as we strive toward the betterment of our community, and our world through Lionism.

Thank you one and all!

Jan Smith
