Walt Miller of Savanna has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the West Carroll School Board.

Miller, a retired West Carroll school bus driver, was appointed July 15 by Regional Supt. Aaron Mercier.

West Carroll Supt. Julie Katzenberger told the Times-Journal/Mirror-Democrat in an email July 19 that Mercier was required to make the appointment after the school board was unable to fill the vacancy within the allotted 60 days.

Katzenberger said Miller’s appointment to the four-year term from District 4 is effective immediately and will continue until the next school board election in 2023.

The vacancy was created when former board president Jerry Anderson decided not to seek re-election in April after serving eight years on the board.

West Carroll School District advertised last spring that it was seeking applications from eligible residents interested in serving on the board from District 4. No appointment was ever forthcoming from the district.
