The West Carroll School Board is back to full strength after a new member was sworn in last week.
Shay Bradbury, 36, of Savanna Township, took the oath of office during the Wednesday, April 18, meeting. He was elected at the March 20 primary election after receiving three write-in votes for the District 5 position. The seat had been vacant for about a year following the resignation of Jamie McCombie.
"I ran for the school board because I wanted to ensure that District 5 was represented after nearly a year of being unrepresented on the School Board," Bradbury said.
Originally from Marengo, Bradbury graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in biology. He is employed as a commodity grader with the United States Department of Agriculture.
Bradbury's wife Abby graduated from Savanna High School in 2001. She is a science teacher at West Carroll High School. They have three children, all attending West Carroll Primary School.
"I just want to see West Carroll run efficiently to ensure we attract and retain great teachers in order to provide our students with an enjoyable and productive academic experience at West Carroll," Bradbury said.
Bradbury has experience in education through a teacher's assistant position in graduate school, substitute teaching at West Carroll and as a lab manager at Highland Community College in Freeport.
