West Carroll's girls cross county team is headed to sectionals for the first time ever following a seventh place finish Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Class 1A Rock Falls Regional.

"This is the first time in the program’s history that our girls team qualified for sectionals," said coach Travis Findlay. "We knew that all of our girls had to run a great race in order to qualify for sectionals. No one could have asked for more than what they did.”

Jaidyn Sisler led West Carroll with a 14th overall finish in a time of 20:30.

Other West Carroll runners were Abby Burns, 23rd, 21:06; Olivia Shelly, 37th, 22:20; Hannah Bauch, 58th, 24:40; and Deni Davis, 59th, 24:43.

"Jaidyn got out quick and stayed with the lead pack for most the race," Findlay said. "The key to us qualifying was Deni Davis. She dropped her time again this race and moved up several spots and pushed our team score into advancing to sectionals."

The Thunder finished with a team score of 173, beating Kewanee Wethersfield by 15 points for the final spot. Rock Falls dominated the field with 17 points to take first.

The Thunder will race at the Oregon Sectional Saturday, Nov. 2, at Park West in Oregon. The top five teams and the top seven finishers not on a qualifying team advance to the state finals on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Detweiller Park in Peoria.

In the Class 1A Winnebago Regional, Eastland-Milledgeville freshman Delaney Wilhelms qualified for sectionals as an individual with a time of 19:22 to claim 22nd.
