The West Carroll School Board is back at full strength after a new member was appointed during last week's meeting.
The school board has had a vacancy from District 7 (Thomson area) since Jessica Edwards submitted her resignation on Nov. 21. She was first elected in April 2015. Since Edwards' resignation, the district has been seeking applications for the vacancy.
Nicole Thulen, 35, of Thomson, was unanimously approved by the board at its Wednesday, Jan. 15, meeting to fill the vacancy. Fred Tipton, her uncle, abstained from the vote.
Thulen will hold the position until the April 2021 election. At the April 2021 election, the seat will be up for election for an unexpired four-year term.
"The board previously established qualifications for the appointee in a careful and thoughtful manner,” Supt. Julie Katzenberger told the Mirror-Democrat/Times-Journal in a Friday, Jan. 17, email. “Mrs. Thulen meets those qualifications and has demonstrated the willingness to accept the duties and responsibilities of a West Carroll Board of Education member."
Added the superintendent, "Mrs. Thulen brings a clear understanding of the demands and expectations of being a Board member along with a constructive attitude towards that challenge."
Other members of the West Carroll School Board include Bev Kilpatrick, Dawn Rath, Walt Miller, John McIntyre, Shay Bradbury and Fred Tipton.
